“It was the king. He walked gently to her.
“A princess never works before, but her first time washing clothes shows years of experience.” He examined the clothes on the lines. Bakani quickly woke up hearing a familiar voice. She trailed up to the king who was standing in front of her not wearing his formal robe. He was only wearing a white robe.
“My Lord!” She quickly stood up even though she was about to fall.
“I learned fast while watching my personal maid works sometimes…” She quickly lied. Princess Amatak had never watched her when she worked. She hoped that he buys her lie.
“Good to know that I can count on you because that’s what my wife’s duty.” The king replied as he turned his back and walked away.
“Wait!” She quickly stopped him.
“Please allow me to ask you one question, my lord.” She continued. The king didn’t say anything so she asked, “Why did you marry me since you hated my father?”
The king didn’t say anything for a moment. He stood there making her even more curious for his answer.
“I can’t just stand still and watch a tiger dying in front of me, so I give it water.” The king finally replied. She didn’t even know what he meant, but she knew it was one of those bitterness meaning.
“Why did you even go with this marriage when you already a powerful king?” She continued her question. The king was walking away but he stopped when she asked her question. He turned around and looked at her with his deadly serious face.
“You want to know the real secret?” He asked her. She didn’t say anything, but he knew that she wanted to know.
“Because I don’t mind having another worker in my castle.” He answered. She gripped her hands together hard in anger. At that moment, she didn’t care about anything anymore. She was angry.
“Inhuman!” She blurted out. When he she blurted that out. He wrinkled his forehead. He couldn’t believed what he just heard. She really was that spoil princess.
“Do you know who you’re talking to?” He asked her in his serious tone.
“I am not afraid because we both are breathing the same air!” She shouted and was about to walk away from him when he grabbed her hand. He was filled with anger all of a sudden.
“Didn’t your parent teach you to respect your elder? I’m your husband.” He spoke in a deep voice with his face so close to her. She was still mad at him that she tried to pull her hand back, but his grip was stronger than she thought. She didn’t have that much energy anymore to fight with him.
“I’m not your…” She stopped herself before she could reveal herself.
“Your what?” He asked. She then shook her head several times. She remembered that she had promised not to reveal to anyone or Afaishan will be dead.
Suddenly, her body became weak. She fell to the king’s chest and fainted. The king was confused for a moment. He sighed and quickly picked her up in his arms and walked back to the castle. The maids were near by and watched them. They heard the whole conversation between them. He brought her into a new room. This room was big and beautiful. It was decorated with red and pink and white drapes. He called a doctor in instantly.
“My Lord, there is nothing wrong with her. She didn’t eat, and she wore herself out.” The old man spoke. “She just needs to rest more.”
“Okay you can go now.” The king directed as the man packed his item up and went out. The king sat down on the side of the bed and looked at his wife. He then noticed her small elegant hands. He picked one of them up and studied it. Her hands were all buff and white from touching the water too much.
“How come a spoiled princess worked so hard?” He asked himself out loud. He gently tucked her hands back inside the sheet and then got up.
Jan was standing by the door when he went out of the room.
“Take good care of her, give her more easier job tomorrow.” He said before he walked away.
“Yes, your highness.” Jan bowed her head and went into the room to take care of Bakani.
The two maids looked confused as they looked at each other.
“I don’t get, why is the king treating his wife like this?” They asked each other.
The other shrugged.
