“My lord, you are my king, I can’t take your cup that is meant for you.” She explained while looking down the floor nervously.
“Then I order you to drink this because I’m your king.” He spoke gently with a smirk.
She had no choice but to drink it, regretting her action in putting the sleeping potion in it. She took the cup in her hand, slightly shaken, but fearlessly gulped down the wine. She drank half of the wine when her head started to feel dizzy. She dropped the cup on the floor, spilling it, and fell to the king’s thigh. He sat there saying nothing for a while. Then he slowly took the veil off her face, revealing her beautiful angelic face.
He was so shocked to find this woman was far more beautiful than his imagination. The way people described her to him was different from what she really looked like. How could a gentle face like her be a sassy princess? He couldn’t just judge her by her look. He thought. He slowly picked her up in his arm like she was light as a feather. He then placed her on his bed this time revealing her whole face. She was definitely beautiful like an angel that had a look sweet like honey and innocent like a flower. This was why everyone talking about.
“Fool, no matter what you do, you are already my woman.” He spoke and touched her soft hair and then gently ran down her cheek with his knuckles feeling her flawless fair skin. He covered the sheet over her body before he got out of the room and left for his study room. Even though he hated her father, but he didn’t want to take advantage of her. He’s still a man with morals.
The next morning, Bakani woke up feeling dizzy and confused at the same time. She scanned around the room wondering where she was. For a moment, she had forgotten what happened last night. Then she remembered, she screamed so loud that the maid and the guards outside ran into the room.
“My Lady, are you alright?” They asked her in concern. She looked at them without knowing how to answer them.
“Where am I?” She asked them.
“What do you mean, My Lady? You’re in the king’s chamber.” One of the maids answered. She quickly got out of the bed, pacing out. Then where was the king? She thought. Did he see her face? She was so worried. She touched her face just to make sure. She was in trouble now because he knew that she was about to poison him. She had to ask him.
“I want to see the king.” She spoke.
“My lady, in this castle, you are only allowed to see him if he wishes to see you.” Someone came at the door. The princess looked up and found a woman wearing a bright red dress. She had on a scarf over her head, too.
“Who are you?” She asked.
“I’m the head of the maids who will be taking care of you. My name is Jan.” She spoke with courtesy. “I’m here to escort you to your place.” She continued. Her tone was devilish somehow, which made the princess chilled a little down her spine.
After she changed into her normal clothes, they took her to a faraway place from the castle. She didn’t even know where they took her. She wanted to ask, but she was too scared to do so. Finally when they got to the place, she saw a room full of dirty laundry.
“Where is this?” She asked finally to cure her curiosity.
“This, my lady, is where you will be working. The king has ordered you to do all this laundry for our soldiers.” Jan answered. Bakani blinked her eyes many times after hearing her words.
“What?” She asked in shock. “Are you serious?”
“It’s the king’s order; we had nothing to do with this.” Jan answered and bowed her head.
Everyone left her there. She thought she had finally escape her work as a maid now that she had married the king, but why? Even though she was a professional maid, but doing so much dirty laundry would kill her. She sighed and then looked around for something. She found a well with a bucket that tied with a rope to get the water up.
“Ok girl, you can do this! You used to do this, so it’s okay!” She spoke to herself while rolling up her sleeves and started to do the laundry. Just as she was about to go back to work, she heard maids giggling and gossiping about her.
“It’s obvious that the king still has a grudge on her father. Such a cheap bastard, knowing that he was going to fall, he sold his daughter away for protection.” They spoke with each other. Even though they weren’t gossiping about her, she still feel the hurt and anger in her heart.
That whole day, she worked hard on washing the clothes with her hands and hanging them up on the clothes line under the bright sun. At the end of the day, she was done! She sat down next to well and leaned her head on the brick to rest when she heard someone was coming toward her. She was too tired to look up who it was that she just didn’t care for anyone.
